What is the difference between disaster and tragedy?

“Both disasters and tragedies bring about suffering or death; a disaster, however, is caused by an accident or outside force, so that the hero’s physical suffering is not accompanied by guilt, whereas a tragedy is caused by the hero’s wrong choice, leading to an agonizing discovery of personal responsibility, consequence, and spiritual suffering.” (Bean, 2017)

Thus, what we do when teaching and training people systems thinking, and project management is turning disasters into tragedies. Before the training, they don’t understand their previous decisions and actions cause of the circumstances. And they think that situation is a disaster which they should live through. But after the training, they understand it is their bad and lose their confidence and trust (if not properly managed by the instructor).

Turning disasters into tragedies. That sounds like a motto to me.
